OM Marine Club: Coastal Creature Observation Event for Families

An initiative to pass on the joy of nature observation and an understanding of biodiversity to the next generation.

The OM Marine Club, an activity run by employees in Japan who love the sea, deepens interactions with employees and their families through diving and natural experiences by the seaside.
On May 16, 2026, NPO Papalagi “Umi to Shizen no Kyoshitsu” (Ocean & Nature Workshop) hosted a "Coastal Wildlife Observation Event" in Nishiura, Enoshima, Kanagawa Prefecture, where OM Marine Club participated together with employees' families.
On the day, we entered the rocky shore during the low tide of spring tide and observed various creatures living in the tide pools. Before the observations, the instructor explained observation methods that minimize burden on living creatures and the surrounding environment, and the children participated in the activities while learning to care for nature.

Tide pools are "small natural aquariums."

Tide pools are sometimes called "small natural aquariums," and are home to many creatures such as hermit crabs, small fish, crabs, shrimp, and sea anemones. Children were excitedly searching for creatures, peering into the shadows of rocks and puddles, shouting "There it is!" and "It moved!", and could be seen everywhere happily showing off the creatures they found, thoroughly enjoying their interaction with nature.

"I caught a hermit crab."
"Look! There's something here!"

The experience of not only "seeing" nature using a camera, but also "photographing" and "observing" it.

Additionally, as an original project by OM Marine Club, we offered a shooting experience using our waterproof camera, the "OM SYSTEM Tough TG Series." The children were thrilled as they photographed the creatures they found themselves and saw them fill the entire screen. Through experiences not only of "seeing" nature but also of "photographing" and "observing," it was an opportunity to deepen understanding of nature while having fun.

Even tiny hermit crabs can be photographed in detail using the camera's microscope mode.

From the children who participated,
"I could only catch small creatures myself, so next time I want to catch a big crab like the teacher!"
"That was fun! We found this (hermit crab)!"
"I was so happy that we all worked together to catch a big crab!"
We received many positive comments like these.

OM Digital Solutions values nurturing the connection between people and nature through products and technologies that support the joy of observing nature and the joy of discovery. Going forward, we will continue activities that value connections with local communities and the next generation, promoting understanding of the natural environment and creating experiential value.
