On June 15, 2026, in collaboration with Yamano College of Aesthetics, we held a student photography course using equipment from OM Digital Solutions 's video product brand "OM SYSTEM." This initiative was born from the regional connections between the college, which has a campus in Hachioji, and our company, also headquartered in Hachioji. For this photography course, photographer Takashi Nakamura will be invited as the instructor, and students will personally apply hair and makeup to models and shoot them one-on-one in a one-on-one style. This initiative was the second time following last year, with the number of participants about doubling from the previous event, reflecting the high level of interest among students. Additionally, some students from the previous event have won prizes in the hair and makeup photo contest.
Noticing even the slightest difference, like a single strand of hair, through a monitor.
In the workshop, students photographed models they had styled themselves (hair and makeup) in a makeshift studio within the classroom, in a one-on-one style. Mr. Nakamura used a technique called "tethered shooting," where he displayed the photos on a monitor as they were taken, and provided specific advice for each shot. The students listened attentively, taking notes so as not to miss a single word.
"Even a single strand of hair falling across the forehead can increase the amount of editing work required later. That's why it's necessary to check every detail on the monitor while shooting."
Not only the technique of taking pictures, but also the awareness of how to present them.
Furthermore, Mr. Nakamura added, "Finding the angle that makes the model look beautiful and taking the picture is also part of the photographer's job," emphasizing the importance of paying attention to light and angles. The students listened attentively not only to his technical precision but also to his perspective on how to photograph people beautifully.
As Mr. Nakamura spoke, the students' expressions gradually began to change. By learning what professional photographers look for, they seemed to find a new meaning in each aspect of the hair and makeup they had applied.
Each time a photo was displayed on the monitor, small cheers rippled through the classroom. "I was amazed at how each strand of hair looked so much shinier than in photos taken with a smartphone," and "I want to try taking more photos with a DSLR camera." The voices of the participating students were filled with genuine surprise and curiosity.
As a company headquartered in Hachioji City, Tokyo, we will continue our activities to support the next generation of learning in cooperation with local educational institutions.
